Sustained Growth Seen in $4.7 Billion Moulded Pulp Packaging Market

The global moulded pulp packaging market, valued at around $4.7 billion, is witnessing steady and sustained growth, driven by the rising demand for eco-friendly and sustainable packaging solutions.

Made from recycled paper and natural fibers, moulded pulp products are gaining popularity as a reliable alternative to plastic packaging. Industries such as food & beverage, electronics, healthcare, and e-commerce are increasingly adopting these solutions to reduce environmental impact.

The shift towards biodegradable and recyclable materials, along with stricter regulations on plastic usage, is further accelerating the demand for moulded pulp packaging worldwide.

With growing awareness around sustainability and continuous innovation in packaging design, the segment is expected to remain a key growth driver for the pulp and paper industry in the coming years.

  • Lecta’s EraCup Natural Earns flustix ‘Less Plastics’ Certification

Lecta’s EraCup Natural Earns flustix ‘Less Plastics’ Certification

This international recognition reinforces Lecta’s commitment to a new era of responsibility for paper packaging and positions EraCup Natural among the most advanced solutions on the market.

Lecta takes another step forward in its strategy to develop environmentally responsible products with the flustix “Less Plastics Product” certification for its EraCup Natural board for food service applications. The certification confirms that the product’s composition is at least 99.25% plastic-free — the highest level awarded under this European standard. This recognition validates the board’s optimized composition, verified through tests conducted by an accredited laboratory.

EraCup Natural is an SBB (Solid Bleached Board) manufactured with pulp from responsibly managed, certified forests. Its smooth, natural surface is suitable for both flexographic and offset printing, while its inner side, coated with an aqueous dispersion, provides excellent heat-sealing resistance and optimal performance during conversion processes.

The flustix label — a reference in the packaging sector — quantitatively evaluates the plastic content of products and materials in accordance with international standards and verifiable traceability criteria. Combined with the board’s high technical performance, this certification ensures that EraCup Natural meets the most stringent requirements for transparency and reduced environmental impact, making it one of the most advanced solutions for single-use paper cups and food service packaging.

“This accreditation confirms EraCup Natural as a benchmark board for food service applications, designed to deliver outstanding converting performance and respond effectively to new market demands. It reflects our ongoing commitment to developing safe, regulation-compliant, and highly recyclable solutions that enable converters and brand owners to advance their sustainability goals and strengthen brand differentiation,” said Armin Van Overbeek, Specialities Commercial Director at Lecta.

In addition to the flustix seal, EraCup Natural holds DIN CERTCO certification for both industrial and home compostability, recyclability Level A (Aticelca 501/19), and assessments confirming its compatibility with standard paper recycling streams.

Achieving this certification marks another milestone in Lecta’s strategy to reduce the use of non-renewable resources and promote circular, lower-impact solutions. Within this framework, the EraCup range embodies the concept “A New Era of Responsibility” — a philosophy that drives responsible innovation in food packaging and reinforces Lecta’s commitment to a more sustainable future.

  • Lecta introduces GardaRecycled Print, its new 100% recycled coated paper

Lecta introduces GardaRecycled Print, its new 100% recycled coated paper

Lecta reinforces its commitment to the environment and to the circular economy with the launch of GardaRecycled Print, its new 100% recycled coated paper with outstanding print performance.

GardaRecycled Print is a two-side coated paper with a natural shade and high opacity, ensuring excellent print quality for both color and black-and-white texts and images. Made entirely from recycled fibers, it is FSC® Recycled Credit certified.

Available in sheets and reels, GardaRecycled Print comes in a range of grammages from 115 to 170 g/m², making it suitable for a variety of applications, such as annual and environmental reports, brochures, catalogues, leaflets, books, direct mail, and promotional print. This paper is compatible with multiple printing techniques, including flexography, offset, laser, dry toner, and high-speed continuous-feed inkjet press.

Alessandro Nardelli, Head of Lecta’s Publishing Range, explained: “The flexibility of Lecta’s Cartiere del Garda mill in Italy has enabled us to now cover all publishers’ needs— from high-bulk paper to traditional papers, from white to off-white papers, and from smooth to rough textures. With GardaRecycled Print, Lecta takes another significant step in providing new recycled options without compromising performance.”

The market for recycled paper is steadily growing. Publishers are seeking materials that align with their sustainability policies while maintaining high print standards. However, non-recycled paper remains essential for many applications requiring the highest standards of whiteness, smoothness, and technical performance. In response, Lecta offers a comprehensive range of both recycled and non-recycled papers to meet the diverse requirements of the printing industry.

All Lecta products are manufactured in compliance with the strictest environmental managements standards – ISO 14001 and EMAS – as well as ISO 50001 energy efficiency, ISO 9001 quality and ISO 45001 occupational health and safety standards.

By integrating GardaRecycled Print, a 100% recycled coated paper, into its portfolio, Lecta continues to promote responsible practices across the value chain, reinforcing its position as a global, versatile and reliable supplier for the publishing and printing industries.
