Sael at San Martino paper mill : Complete automation for paper manufacturing

sael
At Cartiera San Martino, after the installation of the new automation system in the preparation area in 2020, the new machine head, and the upgrade of the coating line carried out in 2023, Sael is now ready to provide the complete automation for paper manufacturing, from the pulper to the pope reel.

Each individual utility will be controlled by our DCS system, allowing production to have everything under control, with a total of 5 supervision stations distributed across the mill in the most critical areas.

During 2025, we will complete the commissioning of the new sectional system with the control of two 1 MW power switchboards, distributed across 43 Sael drives. To complete the solution, a total of 6 remote control islands and 8 control panels will be installed to enable precise data collection exactly where it is needed and facilitate electrical maintenance during fault finding.

The project, carried out by SAEL/SIMI, includes new drive switchboards, PCC, MCC, AC motors, and the entire medium voltage substation. SAEL will also handle the complete wiring of the plant.

The solution covers areas such as forming, vacuum control, press handling, hoods, steam control, air thermal systems, pope reel bobbin changes, and overall, complete control of the continuous paper machine in the mill.
